THANK YOU NYC

The temperature is already cooler in New York, much more so than the South.  Mid-September has the fall mood setting in quickly, and Friday the 13th makes a perfect background for the odd and enjoyably out of place. At a properly inconspicuous studio space in Williamsburg, sounds from Texas DJ’s play the best of D-Town anthems, screw classics, and the spectrum of Southern icons from Outkast to Megan Thee Stallion. Cowboy hats and cumbias stake their due claim in the space, and home-grown brands like Austin Eastciders and Goodnight Loving Vodka quench the thirst of the masses, with even a few Shiner Bachs in the mix. Unknown to locals, a reunion of MUD fam and other Texas transplants brings a sense of home it’s hard to find anywhere, let alone a city of millions of strangers and no proper brisket. This event, produced with videographer/photographer extraordinaire Steadyprime, is in many ways about embracing oddities: a MUD function in NYC, hearing Dorrough and Young Nino in Williamsburg, or a Whataburger cup appearance hundreds of miles from the nearest Spicy Ketchup packet.
